GOD TURNS ORDINARY MOMENTS INTO DIVINE MOMENTS

Luke 19:37-44  When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives,

the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they

had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory

in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING DIVINE MOMENTS,

BUT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RECOGNIZING THEM.

CRITICISM CAN KEEP YOU FROM RECONGIZING A DIVINE

MOMENT

Luke 24:17-21 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” They

stood still, their faces downcast. One of them, named Cleopas (CLE-A-PUS), asked him, “Are

you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” “What things?” he asked. “About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a

prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. The chief priests and our

rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that

he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all

this took place.

EXPECTATIONS CAN KEEP YOU FROM RECOGNIZING A DIVINE

MOMENT

Difference between Expectations VS Anticipation

Expectations is a stronger belief that something will happen in a specific way, Anticipation is looking forward to something with an openness to how.

Mark 6:1-5 Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” He could not do any miracles

there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.

FAMILIARITY CAN KEEP YOU FROM RECOGNIZING A DIVINE

MOMENT

Isaiah 29:13 The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me

with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human

rules they have been taught.

RECOGNITION IS A MATTER OF THE HEART, NOT A MATTER OF

SIGHT.
