Called to Follow God's Word

In this series, we break down the word for the year as shared by Pastor Randy. Through this vision, we understand how we are “called” in different ways and for different things. This week, we dive into how we are called to follow God’s Word. In order to do this, we need to truly know what His word says by reading it daily.

Praise hands

Psalm 119:35 (NIV): Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.

We Often Miss What God Is Trying to Say

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT): “My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Proverbs 14:12 (NLT): There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

Psalm 139:23–24 (ASV): Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts; …And lead me in the way everlasting.

Get to Know God's Word

Psalm 119:24 (NIV): Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.

Look for Principles to Guide My Life

Matthew 24:35 (NIV): “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

Discovering God’s Principles -- How do we find these principles?

Sometimes They Are Stated

       Sowing and Reaping

Galatians 6:7 (NLT): Don’t be misled…You will always reap what you sow!

You will become just like the people you hang out with

Proverbs 13:20 (LB): Be with wise men and become wise. Be with evil men and become evil.

The way you raise your kids determines what they will be like when they’re adults

Proverbs 22:6 (NIV): Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Sometimes They Are Implied

      The principle of unconditional love

Romans 2:4 (NIV): …God’s kindness—love—leads you toward repentance.

Sometimes They Are Illustrated

Freedom is found by being under authority

The more I follow God’s Word, the more fruitful and fulfilling my life will be.

Psalm 1:1–3 (NIV):  Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.
