1 “LEGACY IS SUSTAINED THROUGH COMMUNITY”
Exodus 17:10-13 NLT - 10 So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. 11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.
Legacy lesson 1:
• You will never sustain what God called you to carry alone.
2 LEGACY IS BUILT IN GOD’S PRESENCE
Exodus 33:12-16 NLT - 12 One day Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Take these people up to the Promised Land.’ But you haven’t told me whom you will send with me. You have told me, ‘I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.’ 13 If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. And remember that this nation is your very own people.”
14 The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.” 15 Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. 16 How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.”
Exodus 33:11 NLT - Inside the Tent of Meeting, the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp, but the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting.
Legacy Lesson 2
• Legacy is not what you experience…it’s what you model.
3 LEGACY REQUIRES ACCESS, NOT JUST INSTRUCTION
Exodus 24:12-13 NLT - 12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have inscribed the instructions and commands so you can teach the people.” 13 So Moses and his assistant Joshua set out, and Moses climbed up the mountain of God.
Legacy Lesson 3
• You don’t build legacy by protecting your position…you build it by preparing your replacement.
4 LEGACY IS TRANSFERRED INTENTIONALLY
Numbers 27:18 NLT - The Lord replied, “Take Joshua son of Nun, who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.
Legacy Lesson 4
• A great life is not just how you start…it’s how you finish
5 LEGACY REQUIRES LETTING GO
Legacy Lesson 5
• Legacy is proven when you can celebrate what you won’t experience.
Joshua 1:1-2 NLT – After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said, 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them.
