2 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV): And I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

THE APPLE DOESN’T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE.

OUR PRESENT IS SHAPED BY OUR PAST.

UNADDRESSED SIN DOESN’T GET BETTER, IT GETS WORSE.

Genesis 12:1-3 (NIV): The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Genesis 12:10-13 (NIV): Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”

Genesis 20:2 (NIV): …and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “she is my sister.” Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.

Genesis 20:11-13 (NIV): Abraham replied, “I said to myself, ‘There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’ Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. And when God had me wander from my Father’s household, I said to her, ‘This is how you can show your love to me: Everywhere we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”

JUST BECAUSE YOU GET A PROMISE, DOESN’T MEAN YOU WON’T HAVE A STRUGGLE.

Genesis 26:7 (NIV): When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.”

IF IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY, IT MIGHT BE CHASING YOU.

SAME SINS, NEW STYLE. THE CURSE IS BROKEN, BUT THE PATTERN CAN BE REPEATED

Exodus 34:6-7 (NIV): The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.”

Colossians 2:13-15 (NIV): When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

JESUS MIGHT LIVE IN YOUR HEART, BUT GRANDPA LIVES IN YOUR BONES.
